Three key Probe projects that have influenced their service offering

Probe has been a trusted supply chain partner for engineering projects for over four decades. In this time, they have worked closely with their clients, building lasting relationships, to enable them to optimise asset productivity and performance.

Manufacturing oilfield equipment is at the core of the Probe offering. Acutely aware of the demands and deadlines placed on its clients; Probe are reliably responsive to their requests to ensure projects are delivered quickly but without compromising quality and safety.

Responding to client’s needs has led to the continuous growth of the Probe service offering. The company now offers fully manufactured, assembled and tested equipment packages, where the work is carried out completely in-house. With the ageing of offshore platforms worldwide, Probe have recently seen increased demand for refurbishment and upgrades on equipment too. This has grown into a complete service offering, where Probe are fully equipped to produce reports and refurbish the equipment all in-house. Recertification can also be delivered by a third-party of the client’s choice.

This blog gives an overview of three key projects, one from each of the Probe service areas, that have influenced their overall offering.

1. MANUFACTURE REQUIREMENTS: COST-EFFECTIVE INNOVATIVE CLADDED SPOOL COMPONENT

Spool component

Probe were approached by a client to aid in the design and manufacturing of an inlaid spool component which would meet the needs of this project and conform to industry standards.

The end client required the wellhead component to be used in a flanged wellhead assembly to secure the upper end of a casing string. A corrosive resistant finish needed to withstand the harsh environment in which the product would be situated in.

We utilised our dedicated in-house design team to compile the engineering drawings, which would allow our operations team to manufacture the spool.

For the end client, a full turnkey project with design aid and manufacture of a fully inlaid and painted product was achieved.

2. MANUFACTURE, ASSEMBLY & TEST: LARGEST HOT TAPPING TOOL FOR ENERGY PIPE INTERVENTION

Hot tapping tool for Mirage Machines

Mirage Machines, an Actuant company, approached Probe to manufacture a number of components for their innovative large 48” hot tapping tool for the Chinese market.

The components requested from Mirage for this project, ranged from large drive couplings, sleeves, shafts, boring bars and gearboxes. The hot tapping tool and all manufactured components also required full performance and factory testing that had to adhere to industry standard requirements.

This was the largest hot tapping tool ever designed and manufactured by Mirage with a cutting tool diameter of 48” (1219.2mm). All specifications of the components Probe produced, had to adhere to Mirage’s design parameters and engineering drawings as well as cutting parameters, and under pressure conditions as would be observed during operations.

The client received a full turnkey solution from Probe with supported design and guidance and manufactured and testing services to all the specifications required.

3. REFURBS & UPGRADES: CHOKE MANIFOLD REFURBISHMENT & RECERTIFICATION

Choke manifold refurbishment

A client contacted Probe requesting a complete full visual and dimensional check on a choke manifold system they owned.

Prior to starting the refurbishment of the choke manifold, a detailed inspection report was formulated and submitted to the client for review. Even though recommendations on how to get the equipment back into service included manufacturing new component parts, we agreed with our client that we would refurbish most of the damaged components of the choke manifold as we felt it was both achievable and the most cost-effective way to resolve the leakage paths. This also aided the customers operational deadlines without compromising on the quality.

All components were fully recertified to the specified requirements and the final product was supplied painted to the client’s design expectations and requirements.
